Recently, we did an install for a corporate headquarters’ studio space in downtown Philadelphia, PA. They’ve got a great view, but reflections off other gleaming buildings plus long winter shadows meant they hadn’t been able to shoot without blackouts or masking the top of the windows at certain times of the day.
They came to us and asked, “Can’t we control these separately? Right now, for the subject to be properly lit, we can’t see the view at all. Can we have different levels of light control?”
And that’s exactly what we installed for them.
Before we installed RoscoView, they had 3 bad options:
- The subject was well-lit, but the background out the window was blown out with bright light.
- The subject was well-lit, but the window was dark from blackouts, making the view impossible to see.
- The view out the window looked great, but the subject was dark or silhouetted.
Now with RoscoView, both the subject and the views out the window are well-lit with clear details.
How RoscoView Gives You Complete Control
RoscoView is a turnkey 2-part system: a wide-width polarizing filter installed on your windows, plus a matching camera polarizing filter. You control the exterior exposure just by rotating the camera filter.
RoscoView works by cross-polarizing the light coming through the window and the camera filter. When you rotate the camera filter, the degree of cross-polarization changes. That gives you 100% control of the exterior brightness as your camera sees it. And yet, the ambient light coming into the room or studio is reduced by only one stop.
